Complexity and systems thinking course in Hong Kong

For managers, leaders and anybody who deals with complexity

This systems thinking course gives you models, mindsets, strategies, processes, skills and techniques to handle complexity, manage, innovate and transform your business, organisation or department, develop strategies and unite stakeholders for cooperation.

It will help you optimize things in a larger scale, for example integrate the work flow, technology and information at a company level instead of separated department level. This will result in higher effectiveness and cost reduction in the long-term.

Systems thinking and the related mindsets, skills and information technology innovation like Artificial Intelligence, A.I., cheap, fast, abundant data revolutionise the integration and optimization process at every sector of business, public service, transportation, health care, education, environment management etc.

This course requires good English and is available one-on-one basis or for small groups.

Video description: Systems are mental models. A system does not exist in reality because everything is connected to everything indirectly. So a system is an arbitrary mental model whose elements and scope are defined by us. It is a tool to focus on a small part of reality to understand that better and ignore its context, that is, elements that also influence our chosen systems but we choose to ignore for simplicity and focus.

Systems thinking are concepts, attitudes, perspectives to approach understanding what we study. Every system consists of elements that interact with one another. These elements are also systems. They are sub-system of a higher system. This perspective is called holon (whole-part).

When components of a system interact and only until they interact, they create a higher level system temporarily. When this new level thing exists only as a result of the interaction of sub-systems, we call it emergence. So an emergent property is a system level property that does not exist in any of its components but created as a result of interactions of the elements.

A hierarchical system collapses to a lower level if elements stop interacting at higher levels or interact significantly differently.

Complexity theory, holons, emergence, systems

During the course you will learn useful concepts like emergence, transcendence of cause effect thinking, positive and negative feedback loops, holons, adaptive and responsive systems, systems hierarchy.

We are going to learn about various theories, models and processes like the Iceberg model, systems innovation process, creativity and innovation cycles, linear and non-linear models, abstract thinking, mental model building process.

This training will you give not only a thinking tools but tools to take practical actions in your field and a powerful commonication tools that helps you to create and explain complex ideas and see the flaws of others' thinking.
